Profile tips

Patient

  1. Sit in chair
  2. Look straight ahead
  3. Hair back from forehead and ears - use a band if necessary
  4. Arms - by the side (this helps the head stay straight)
  5. Push top of head up straight - keep chin level (photographer - put palm of hand on the top of the paitent's head - ask patient to push upwards - notice how their spine straightens, their head aligns and their chin becomes level - tell them to hold that position - step back and proceed as below)

Photographer

  1. Crouch to SAME level as patients head - about 1 metre away 
  2. Look at top of nose - the bridge area

Left profile - swing slightly to the left

  1. Look for eyebrow or eyelashes above right eye showing just slightly
  2. Move back to the right and STOP when eyebrow disappears.
  3. Take the image at this point

Right profile - swing slightly to the right

  1. Look for eyebrow or eyelashes above left eye showing just slightly
  2. Move back to the left and STOP when eyebrow disappears.
  3. Take the image at this point

BOTH IMAGES SHOULD BE THE SAME

  • LEVEL
  • AT 90 DEGREES
  • FOREHEAD, BRIDGE, NOSE, CHIN AND EARS IN ALIGNMENT
