HFA cheeks
The cheeks are assessed from a front on view. You are checking for prominent bone structure and the area under the cheekbones.
SHAPE (front on photo - no smile)
Tips
- Look at the cheeks front on
- Cheekbones are sometimes more visible on smiling but the first place to check is in a non-smiling photo
- The bone structure may be highlighted or the area beneath the cheeks sunken in
- Excess weight can hide this feature
- Look at an image before the weight if it is available
- This image should be checked in a non-smiling photo because cheekbones will be more pronounced with a smile for most people. However, if the cheekbones ARE NOT visible in the non-smiling photo and are VERY PRONOUNCED in the smiling photo give them 1 blue point
- Sunken cheeks are not common – they are seen more often in elderly people. The area under the cheekbones will have collapsed inwards and there will be a definite gaunt look under the cheekbones
- When the cheeks are sunken the cheekbones may or may not be strong enough to rate a 1 blue point. If both are strong give 2 blue points.
